Formula 1 race strategy, simulated in real time

See every car's next stop before it happens.

Formula Augmented follows the live timing feed, plans each car's tyre strategy and simulates the whole field to the flag, lap after lap. Who stops when, who comes out where, who gets caught – all on one screen.

The race dashboard: the leaderboard on the left with tyres, laps to the next stop and estimated finish, and strategy cards of selected drivers on the right.
  • 22 carsplanned and simulated in real time on every change
  • 3 best strategiesranked for every car, each simulated to the checkered flag
  • SC / VSCwhat-if already on screen, before it happens
  • 7 languagesEnglish, Čeština, Deutsch, Español, Français, Italiano, 日本語

The race dashboard

The whole race strategy at a glance

A leaderboard that looks ahead

Beside the running order you get what the timing screen leaves out: the tyre each car is on and how many laps it has done, its planned stops as a row of compound chips, and the predicted finishing place.

  • Laps to the next stop – the predicted optimal pit window, counted down lap by lap.
  • Gap trend – closing, steady or losing, with the laps it takes to catch the car ahead.
  • Packs – cars running close together are grouped, so a train reads as one.
The leaderboard: position, tyre compound with age, planned stints, laps to the next stop, gap trend and predicted finishing place for every car.

Strategy options for every car

Click any car and its detail card opens next to the leaderboard. Open several to compare rivals side by side.

  • Up to three best strategies – that, allowing for tyre degradation, fuel use and traffic, finish the race fastest.
  • Stint bar – compounds and lap ranges, with the stop laps marked.
  • Pit-stop window – the cars around it on track now, and where a stop would drop it back into traffic.
  • Tyres left – every set the car still holds, new and used.
Prediction cards for three drivers, each with the available and used tyres, strategy tabs, a stint bar and the pit-stop window.

Graphs that show why

Three tabs above the cards turn the prediction into something you can analyse in more depth.

  • Gap to leader – every open car, from now to the flag, side by side.
  • Tyre degradation – how each car's current tyres are wearing, against the model.
  • SC / VSC prediction – if a safety car or a VSC came out right now, who would pit and onto which tyre.
The tyre degradation tab: each open car's current-stint laps plotted against the linear wear model.

Ready before the safety car

The what-if is calculated continuously, so the answer is already on screen when the safety car comes out. It shows as two lines in running order: what the field would do under a safety car, and under a virtual safety car.

  • Safety car – whether a car can pit without losing a place.
  • VSC – whether fresh tyres are faster than staying out on the current strategy.
  • Opens itself – when a safety car or VSC comes out, the tab is selected for you, and it switches back when the track is green.
The SC/VSC prediction tab: two lines, one for a safety car and one for a VSC, each showing the field in running order with every car marked as pitting for a tyre or staying out.

Red flag

A red flag changes the strategy!

A red flag resets the race, and the app re-plans every car for what is left.

  • From each car's available tyre sets – plans use the tyres that car still holds, new and used, so every car gets its own prediction.
  • Instant re-plan – the best remaining strategies are on the cards before the restart.
  • Compare rivals' strategies – open rivals side by side and see where each plan leaves them at the flag.
The race dashboard under a red flag at the Dutch Grand Prix: the status bar reads RED FLAG, and each open car card shows a pit-this-lap call with its ranked strategy options and stint bars for the rest of the race.

Under the hood

A strategy engine, not a lookup table

  • Whole-field simulation

Every car is run lap by lap against every other – traffic, overtaking, pit loss and the order the stops produce.

  • Every strategy evaluated

Every stop lap and every unused tyre set is priced, and only the plans worth running survive.

  • Tyre wear by team and track

Tyre degradation and pace by team and driver, scaled to the track temperature on the day.

  • Penalties taken into account

A pending time penalty is included in every plan, so the cost shows up in the numbers.

  • Join at any time

Start the app mid-race and it picks up from the current state.

  • Made for a second screen

In a small window or on a side monitor. An adaptive interface for every screen, with as much data as possible in view.

How it works

From the timing feed to your screen

  1. Sign in with F1TV

Formula Augmented needs an F1TV subscription. The app opens a sign-in window at startup. It doesn't use your password or any other data from your F1TV account.

  2. Read the predictions

Every few seconds the engine re-plans each car and re-simulates the field. The dashboard updates as the numbers move.

  3. Follow your drivers

Open any car to see its plan, compare rivals side by side, and pick your favourite drivers in the settings.

What's next

Coming soon

  • Android & iOS – a dashboard laid out for phones and tablets, so the strategy follows you even on the couch.
  • Pit stop times by team performance – every team performs its stops at its own speed.
  • Weather radar – see rain coming to the circuit and decide your strategy from the forecast.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

  • What is Formula Augmented?

A Windows desktop app for Formula 1 race strategy analysis. It follows the live timing feed, plans every car's tyre strategy and simulates the whole field to the flag, lap after lap. It is in beta.

  • Do I need an F1TV subscription?

Yes. The live timing feed needs an F1TV subscription, and the app opens a sign-in window at startup. It never sees or stores your F1TV password or personal data.

  • How does it predict a strategy?

It simulates the whole field lap by lap, with traffic, overtaking and pit loss, for every stop lap and every unused tyre set, and keeps up to three best strategies per car. Tyre wear and pace are set by team and driver and scaled to the track temperature on the day, and a pending time penalty is included in every plan.

  • Can I start the app in the middle of a race?

Yes. Start it at any time and it picks up from the current state of the race.

  • Which platforms and languages are supported?

Windows 10 (version 2004) or later and Windows 11, 64-bit. macOS, iOS and Android are coming soon. The app and this page are available in English, Czech, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Japanese.

  • Is it an official Formula 1 product?

No. Formula Augmented is not an official project associated with the FORMULA ONE companies. FORMULA ONE and related marks are trade marks of Formula One Licensing B.V.
